Tamil Nadu's government has announced a comprehensive smart city initiative aimed at transforming urban infrastructure across the state. The plan, spearheaded by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, includes the integration of advanced technologies to improve public services, transportation, and environmental sustainability. The initiative focuses on upgrading 10 major cities with smart grids, digital governance systems, and eco-friendly urban planning.

The project will be implemented in phases over the next five years, with an initial investment of ₹15,000 crore. Key components include the deployment of IoT-based monitoring systems, AI-driven traffic management, and waste management solutions. The government has also emphasized the importance of citizen participation through digital platforms for real-time feedback and service requests.

This initiative follows a series of policy reforms aimed at improving urban living standards. Previous efforts have included the development of smart villages and the expansion of digital literacy programs. The new smart city plan is seen as a continuation of these efforts, with a focus on creating more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments. The government has also partnered with private sector experts to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
